Navigating through messages
When you log into IU Webmail, by default you begin in your
Inbox folder. From there, you can navigate through your
new messages.
The Inbox view
- The leftmost column contains a checkbox for each message. You can
use this checkbox to select messages to delete or move. To delete
selected messages, click
Deletenear the top left of the message frame. To move or copy selected messages to a folder, clickMoveorCopynear the top right of the message frame.
- The column labeled "#" indicates the number of each individual
message, letting you see how many messages you have.
- The "Date" field indicates the date you received the message.
- The "From" field indicates the sender.
- The "Subject" field contains the text of the "Subject" header of
the message. Click the underlined text in this field to open the
message.
- The "Size" field indicates the size of the message.

Working with messages
You can manipulate a message after opening it. To open a message, click the underlined text in the "From" or "Subject" column for the message, and follow the appropriate directions below:
- To reply to the sender of the message only, click
Reply. This will take you to a page in which you can compose your reply, and add addresses in the "Cc:" field. When you've done so, clickSend Message.
- To reply to the sender and anyone who was copied on the original
message, click
Reply to All. This will take you to a page in which you can compose your reply. When you've done so, clickSend Message.
- To forward the message, click
Forward. This will take you to a page in which you can prepare your message. Enter the forwarding address in the "To:" field, and any addresses you wish to copy the message to in the "Cc:" field. When you're ready to send the message, clickSend Message.
Note: If you are forwarding a message to multiple recipients, use commas to delimit the addresses, in either the "To:" or "Cc:" field; for example: jdoe@indiana.edu, efudd@looneytunes.com, dvader@empire.gov - You can also delete messages from the page in which they open. To
do so, click
Delete. This will mark the message for deletion. To purge your deleted messages forever, at the top right of the screen, clickPurge Deleted.
- To see detailed information about where the message came from,
click
Message Source. This will open a new window containing the full headers and any HTML code.
- You can also move backward and forward in your messages from this page using the arrows near the top right of the message frame.
