IUB Ethernet cable basics
Some time ago, before Ethernet wiring was standardized and when it was still unclear which standard would be adopted, Indiana University Bloomington decided to use the Ethernet II standard. Later, IEEE 802.3 became the standard and is the one now most in use. Consequently, to connect to the IUB network, you need a special cable that uses IUB's wiring on the end that goes into the wall. For details, see the IU Network Cable Wiring Scheme.
Technology Center Consulting (TCC) has installed proprietary Ethernet cables in all non-Greek campus housing for connecting to the Internet. For more, see Getting an Ethernet cable if you live in an IUB Greek house or other IU-affiliated building
