Answering a second incoming call

At Indiana University, if you have subscribed to the Call Waiting feature, see the instructions for your office telephone model to answer a second incoming call while you have a call in progress.

Caller ID telephone

When you are on a call and you hear the call waiting tone, the Caller ID telephone will display the first call as "caller one", and the second as "caller two".

To answer the incoming call, press the Link key and begin speaking with the second call. Your first call will automatically be put on hold. To switch back and forth between the two callers, press the Link key again.

Note: If you have an extension with the same number and the same type of telephone, you can answer the second incoming call from either location by pressing the Link key. You must subscribe to Caller ID with the Call Waiting feature at one of the locations for this application to work.

Meridian business set (M5312 or M5316)

  1. When you hear a tone through the speaker, ask your caller to hold, and then press the key labeled Call Waiting or CWT. (This can be any button of the business set except for key 1.) Your current call will be automatically put on hold.

  2. Press the original line key to return to your first call.

  3. To alternate between callers, press the line key of the call you want to switch to.

  4. To end a call, press RLS while connected to the caller you want to disconnect. Then press the line key of the other caller to continue your conversation.
