If you get the error message "Data Connection Refused" on your BlackBerry
Note: Some of the features described in this document require an Indiana University BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) account. Before you request an IU BES account, you need to have a BES data plan from your cellular provider. For details, see Getting started with a BlackBerry at IU.
The error message "Data Connection Refused" indicates that your BlackBerry device is unable to connect to your cellular carrier network, possibly because:
- Your carrier did not correctly set up your device to use the wireless network.
- Your carrier is experiencing network problems.
- Your device no longer has service with your carrier.
To resolve this problem, contact the support staff for your BlackBerry carrier or vendor. If you purchased your device through UITS, staff may be able to assist you in contacting the vendor.
