FAQ: Projectors in reserved STC classrooms

How do I get the computer to work with the projector?

  1. To use a projector in the Student Technology Centers (STCs), you need a four-digit passcode from UITS. If you do not have one, call 812-855-3802 to request assistance in turning on the projector.

  2. The keypad should be illuminated and should read, "Welcome, Press to Continue".

  3. Once you press Continue, a number pad will appear. Enter your passcode. The system will take some time to warm up.

  4. Some classrooms will give you the option to select between Computer A and Computer B. If there are two computers at the instructor's station, the one on the left will be Computer A and the one on the right will be Computer B. If there is only one computer at the instructor's station, that one will be Computer A and the nearest student computer will be Computer B.

  5. After selecting your input, you will receive the option to turn on the image.

  6. Wait a few moments for the projector to come on.

If this doesn't work, what could be wrong?

  • The code must be entered slowly and deliberately. If the code is entered too quickly, not all keystrokes will be registered with the pad.

  • If the pad is not responding, try unplugging the pad and waiting for a full 20 seconds, and then plug it back in.

  • If the projector has just been shut off, it will not immediately come back on. This is a built-in safety mechanism.

What if I forgot my code or it doesn't work?

If you need a new code, for security reasons, you will have to log into the STC Site Reservations System to obtain it. Find the STC Site Reservations System at:

Select Faculty or Staff, and then View My Account/Reservations/Projector Code. Click Continue, and then log in with your regular Indiana University username and passphrase.

How do I report problems?

How do I shut down the projector?

  1. Press the Computer A image off button (or Computer B image off if that is the computer you are using).

  2. Press Return on the keypad.

  3. Be sure to press OK at the end; if you do not, the projector bulb will continue to burn, which will decrease the lifespan of this expensive part.

How do I use the DVD player or VCR?

  1. The keypad should be illuminated and should read Welcome, Press to Continue.

  2. Once you press Continue, a number pad will appear. Enter the access code from your Site Reservation confirmation message (i.e., "Your RGB passcode is: xxxx").

  3. The system will take a minute to warm up.

  4. You can now select your input. You may see options for VCR, DVD, or both, depending on how the lab is equipped.

  5. After selecting your input, controls for the media will appear.
