Network ID basics
Your Network ID is your electronic identity at Indiana University; it consists of both a username and a passphrase (often referred to as your network passphrase). You need a Network ID to do the following:
- Create additional accounts using the Account Management
Service (AMS)
- Synchronize or change your passphrases on UITS
systems; see At IU, how do I change or synchronize my Network ID passphrase?
- Log into the Central Authentication Service (CAS),
which allows access to many services (e.g., Oncourse
CL and OneStart)
- Log into a Cyrus or Exchange email account (using a client or
web interface), or your Imail or Umail
account
Note: When accessing your Imail or Umail account from the vendor site, you will need to use the vendor passphrase you chose; this may not be the same as your Network ID passphrase.
- Access the IU dial-in modems
- Log into the Mac OS X and Windows computers in the IU
Student Technology Centers (STCs)
- Obtain software via IUware
If you are a student, faculty member, or staff member at IU, you can use the AMS to generate your initial accounts, including your Network ID; see Getting your first computing accounts at IU
If you are IPFW faculty or staff, contact the IPFW IT office at 260-481-6030 to obtain your Network ID.
